HYPNOTHERAPY

Hypnotherapy allows us to address the root of the problem by dealing directly with the
unconscious mind!

Our unconscious mind is extremely powerful and controls about 82% of  our conscious
behaviour. This is why our conscious will-power sometimes disappoint us! The intention of our unconscious mind is always to protect us and keep us safe. Sometimes however, once helpful behavioural patterns become outdated and prevent us from achieving our  goals.

In the state of hypnosis it is possible communicate with the unconscious mind. During the state
of deep relaxation you will be able to remember events which have led up to you developing
certain types of behaviour or physical problems. My aim as a therapist is to help you uncover,
what it is precisely that is holding you back.

WHAT IS HYPNOSIS?
Hypnosis is a natural state of consciousness which we experience every day.
Most people are pleasantly surprised at how familiar it feels.
It is rather like day-dreaming or that lovely feeling you get before you drift off to sleep at night.
My first intent is to help you achieve this level of relaxation by using words and sometimes
physical deepeners, with your consent. As you drift into the so-called trance state, your body will feel heavy and relaxed and your attention will become tuned inwards.

During the state of hypnosis it becomes possible to by-pass the so-called critical factor which determines our subjective view of the world around us. In the trance state we are again open to new learning, just like children, who are able to absorb new  information uncritically.
Changes made at a subconscious level will directly affect your conscious choices.
Depending on your issue this might mean for example, that your will-power might be enhanced.
You will hear and know everything that is going on around you. At no time will you get' stuck in
space'.
In the worst case you will simply drift off to sleep!

WHERE DOES THE THERAPY COME IN?
After taking a careful case-history, I will discuss your particular goals for therapy and answer any questions you may have. I will help you develop the skill of going into deep relaxation.
Anyone who wants to, be can be hypnotised...but you are in charge! No one can be forced to go into a trance against their will.

It is my aim to help alleviate any fears, if you are unfamiliar with or nervous about hypnotherapy.

Therefore, the initial session may consist of getting used to going into a trance and enjoying a guided visualisation to help you relax and start building confidence in the process.
When you are comfortable to proceed, the next step will be to do some exploratory work  regarding memories, feelings and emotions that may be at the root of your issue.
The wonderful thing about the trance state is that you will discover precisely what it is that has
caused your particular issue. The unconscious does not lie! There may be several aspects to
your issue which will come to light in a natural order. It will be  rather like peeling away the layers of an onion.

The self-awareness you will gain by engaging in this work will be the actual key to your healing process.

My purpose as a therapist is to support your progress by employing different therapeutic methods.

These methods may include direct verbal suggestions, counselling, neuro linguistic programming, creative visualisation, Gestalt Therapy and de-sensitisation procedures, in the case of phobias or traumas. I sometimes employ a technique called EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique)which involves tapping meridian points in order to release emotions that may be locked in your energy pathways.

IS HYPNOSIS MIND CONTROL?
Hypnotic relaxation can only be achieved with the client's full co-operation.
Hypnotherapy is nothing to do with stage-hypnotism. During stage-shows previously selected volunteers have already consented to being part of the show.

They could break their trance if they really wanted to, just as one could put down an entrancing novel IF really necessary. In fact, hypnosis can give you back the control  which you have lost.
With the help of your therapist your aim is to harness the power of your unconscious mind.
On the whole, hypnotherapy is a wonderful therapeutic tool which can help you bring about change at an often unexpected rate.

Hypnotherapy has been approved by the British Medical Association for over 50 years and has become the treatment of choice for may psychosomatic illnesses.
Everyone is different, but my aim is to help you you get better as soon as possible.
At the same time, hypnotherapy is not a one-off magic cure performed in one session.
Your rate of improvement will depend on your commitment to change.
Although most clients are likely to feel benefit after one session, for deeper and longer lasting
results, several sessions are recommended.
And if hypnotherapy suits you, I will be delighted to accompany on your healing journey!
Each client is an individual, so please feel free to contact me to discuss your particular issue either via email or telephone.
